Job Description
Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for a Retail Design Manager at the corporate office in Chicago, IL.
Under direction of the Sr. Dir. Design or Dir. Design and in collaboration with the Development, Leasing and Business Development project teams as well as overall Brookfield Retail Properties (BPR) team, this position shall manage, coordinate and implement the planning and design activities of the Retail Design Group; completing projects in support of our various Leasing, Development, and Business Development partners.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with the Sr. Dir. or Dir. Design, provide design and 3D visualization related to leasing and/or business development activities, ensuring successful completion of same. Foster collaboration between all internal and external project team members.

Responsible for handling multiple projects of varying degrees of difficulty.

Be a strategic thinker – turning insights, observations and requests into solutions that exceed design and project expectations. Produce consistently excellent visual work.

Provide updates and insights to the team and supporting business units on retail trends/environments in the US and Globally.

Responsible for managing the process of project intake, team assignments, and overall schedule. Working with all to prioritize assignments and insure the timely completion of work.

Proactively communicate productivity with management to keep them up-to-date with project milestones.

Brainstorming with the Leasing, Business Development and design team to come up with design and image options.

Preparing and designing rough draft illustrations according to Development, Leasing and Business Development direction.

Refining/enhancing design concepts using a wide range of materials, colors and graphics.

Finalizing image design and presentation packages using the latest 3-D visualization software and Adobe Creative Suite

Ensuring that printed illustrations meet specified color and quality standards.

Proficient in Proliance and/or any BPR project management software utilization, both financial and planning modules.

Responsible for implementing and following all department policies and procedures established by the EVP, Const, Design &Dev Admin. and SVP, Planning and Design.

Responsible for the implementation of any BPR adapted sustainable design initiatives (LEED).

In conjunction with TC PM, identify and resolve conflicts between tenant design and existing building conditions
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
-
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or related Design field
-
8+ years of experience in Retail, Industrial, or Hospitality Design with a strong portfolio and management experience

Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator)

Strong modeling and drawing skills in Sketch-up and/or Rhino, AutoCAD and/or Revit

Knowledge of materials and methods of fabrication and installation, fixture concept and development, lighting concept and development, new materials selection and specifications for both large and smaller projects.

Experience in the design management, leasing process, tenant coordination, and creative implementation in working with local retailers, emerging and national brands

Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, as a collaborator, leader as well as independently to meet timelines.

Ability to think creatively and provide constructive feedback to design team quickly and effectively to provide guidance and coaching.

Strong presentation and communication abilities both internally and externally

Passionate about design in all areas, with strong conceptual and artistic skills

Ability to analyze and implement project-based budgets and forecasts

Excellent project management and organizational skills.
