The Meijer Legal Department seeks to add an experienced, energetic Senior Counsel to the company's legal team to provide commercial real estate and general commercial transaction and operational support for the enterprise. The Meijer legal practice group provides to its client base a broad range of legal expertise, experience and practical knowledge, and has a need for an ambitious individual eager to engage in all facets of the business but rooted in real estate, construction and environmental matters.
What You'll be Doing:
Manage and close sophisticated sales, acquisition, development and leasing commercial real estate transactions. These transactions include but are not limited to; transactions and documentation relating to anchor store and big box development, including retail, manufacturing, industrial and office leases, ground leases, sales, acquisitions, land swaps, subdivisions, reciprocal easement agreements, declarations of covenants and conditions, development agreements, easement and license agreements and an array of other development related agreements.
Support Meijer’s affiliate partners in various types of commercial transactions, general operations and information technology matters, including counseling, drafting and negotiating commercial transactions, supplier and supply chain agreements and information technology agreements, data security and privacy matters, and business risk and process management. Candidates should highlight any experience in regulatory matters or governmental investigative response.
The Senior Counsel will provide direct client management, counseling and oversight for the assigned business areas. The position will also support special projects on an “as needed” basis, to provide general legal support to the Company’s business at large in matters beyond the Counsel’s designated areas of responsibility
Advise on organizational rights, obligations and restrictions, provide internal clients with both technical and practical analysis, and craft and execute business-oriented solutions to remediate identified legal issues.
What You Bring With You (Qualifications):
7-10 years of relevant commercial real estate and sophisticated transactional experience obtained in a national law firm, AMLaw 200 law firm or in-house legal department (retail experience a plus);
Proven track record of career progression or escalated scope of responsibilities;
Outstanding client management skills with an ability to inspire confidence and trust;
Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to interface with people at all levels in an organization, including C-Suite, by virtue of professional competence, personal integrity and personal style;
Flexibility and strong analytical ability;
Proven success in managing multiple tasks and priorities; and
Dedication and commitment to practicing law in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.
