The Leasing Paralegal reports to Corporate General Counsel and is responsible for drafting, negotiating, and finalizing retail, industrial and office real estate leases and other lease-related and ancillary documents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Draft and review new leases, amendments, assignments, renewals, expansions, terminations, landlord subordinations, rent commencement date agreements and other related legal documents under the supervision of General Counsel and Senior Paralegal.
Draft unique provisions, as needed.
Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance from field.
Research and propose resolution to various lease issues.
Negotiate with opposing parties on leases, lease amendments and other lease-related documents.
Consult with and advise in-house personnel with respect to the interpretation and enforcement of leases and related documents.
Work closely and cohesively with Lease Administration, Leasing representatives and Construction personnel.
Maintain confidentiality of information and documentation.
Additional duties may be assigned by the manager.
Special projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of five (5) years of related leasing Paralegal experience with an in-house legal department or law firm.
Experience drafting legal real estate documents such as those listed in responsibilities including drafting provisions anew (not solely from templates).
Experience reviewing and analyzing commercial leases including retail, office, and industrial leases.
Strong comprehension, drafting and negotiation skills pertaining to leases and ancillary documents.
Able to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Able to work independently with minimum oversight.
Excellent grasp on the English language, grammar, and legal vocabulary.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Suite (Word, DocuSign, and Outlook) and the ability to learn and use proprietary computer systems and databases.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree in paralegal studies or other relevant field or paralegal certificate.
Experience working on commercial leases and lease-related transactions.
